Dreambox is the most popular brand
1st Place in the Awards of Screen Magazine and n-tv.
The producers of the Dreambox have every reason to be pleased once again at coming first.
The viewers of the German news channel n-tv as well as the readers of Screen Magazine have voted the Linux-based set-top box
as their most popular brand in the field of TV receivers.
In this year’s readers award, which was organized by n-tv and Screen Magazine in cooperation with the German Institute for Service Quality,
the Dreambox romped in well ahead of all the competitors, scoring 1.26 on a scale in which 1 is the perfect score.
In total, more than 10,000 readers and viewers participated in voting for the award.
"The Dreambox particularly convinced participants in the readers awards in the fields of product satisfaction, resale value
and brand recommendation", explains Florian Kundt, publisher of Screen Magazine.
"We are extremely happy about this award, which is proof of the high quality of the Dreambox", adds Louis Lee,
spokesperson for Leontech, responsible for the distribution of the leading brand of Linux receivers.
"Achieving first place is a motivation to continue fulfilling the expectations of our customers in future, by continuing to improve the Dreambox."
Hardware-Update for Dreambox
Release-Image planned for OE2.0
Hong Kong, 18. July 2013. Leontech, responsible for the distribution of the Dreambox brand of Linux-based set-top boxes,
is launching three existing models of Dreamboxes into the trade with improved hardware.
The DM500 HD as well as the DM800 HD se and the DM7020 HD will be equipped with new memory modules,
increasing the performance of these boxes, which have won many awards.
In addition a release image will be published for the OE2.0 software for this second generation of Dreamboxes.
To date, the DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se have come equipped with a 64 MB flash memory. The random access memory used to be 256 MB.
The new hardware components mean that the flash memory in both Dreamboxes is increased to 1 GB.
The random access memory capacity is doubled to 512 MB.
The increased memory capacity will allow users to install significantly more plug-ins and other extensions, thus increasing the range of functions of their Dreambox.
This means that both the compact DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se now feature the same memory capacity as the DM7020 HD.
This Dreambox, too, is being equipped with new memory modules, as the modules used previously are no longer available from the suppliers.
To coincide with the new hardware in the second generation Dreamboxes, Leontech will make available a release image for the OE2.0 software.
To date, only a beta version of the software has been available, which, among other features, supports the HbbTV standard.
Leontech spokesperson Louis Lee: "This hardware update ensures the DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se remain at the cutting edge of technology.
The expansion of memory capacity allows users to adapt their Dreamboxes even better to their individual preferences.
Dream reorganizes its distribution.
Expansion of service and support facilities for Dreambox.
Dream Multimedia, the leading provider of Linux-based set-top boxes, has reorganized its distribution within the framework
of a general restructuring programme.
Part of the restructuring involves expanding the service and support facilities for customers.
Dream has specifically decided to expand its international distribution, and to this end has found a partner who will in future
be responsible for the worldwide network of distributors as well as for the sell-through of Dream products.
This will allow the producer of Dreamboxes to react more flexibly to the demands of an increasingly dynamic market environment,
and so to ensure the continued success of the Dream brand.
The restructuring programme involves expanding the service and support facilities at the headquarters in Lünen,
close to Dortmund in Germany, in order to provide the company’s own customers with optimum support
in case of any questions concerning the Dream products.
The restructuring as well as the expansion of the service and support facilities ensure that Dream can enhance its profile in comparison with its competitors.
In future, too, Dream Multimedia will continue to cement its leading position as an innovative company in the field of
consumer electronics, with specifically developed software solutions and new products, such as the Goliath project, which is currently in development.
Dream spokesperson Alpaslan Karasu "Our new distribution structure provides the foundation for the continued success of the Dream brand.
We want to provide a level of quick, expert support as well as extensive services for our customers in order to further distinguish ourselves from the competition."
DM8000 HD PVR Production is shut down
The Dreambox DM8000 HD PVR translated the claim into action to unite digital consumer electronics into one device.
It is all the more regrettable, then, that Dream won't be able to carry on the production of this groundbreaking multimedia centre.
This is because several electronic components are no longer available. Dream Multimedia won't develop a successor of the DM8000.
Nevertheless, Dream looks ahead to the future. At this year's Anga Cable show Dream lifted the veil and let visitors take a brief look at the Goliath project.
This innovative software and hardware platform will outshine everything Dream has developed so far.
Open Source operating system now well established
Lünen, 6. October 2010.
This year, Dream Multimedia, the leading supplier of Linux-based set-top boxes, is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its Enigma operating system.
It is a decade since Dream first presented its software for Linux-based set-top boxes.
Since then, the system’s successor, Enigma2, has been introduced successfully by Dream.
In 2000, the company presented the DM7000, the first Dreambox to be equipped with the Enigma operating system.
In the years that followed, the company made the Open Source project what it is today:
a stable, powerful software platform for set-top boxes, combining all the strengths of digital media usage in a single system.
Six years later, in the DM7025, Dream launched the Enigma2 system.
Today, many producers of set-top boxes have integrated Enigma or Enigma2 in their Linux-based equipment.
Under the leadership of Dream Multimedia, Enigma has become the leading Linux operating system for set-top boxes.
In future, too, Dream will continue to be instrumental in driving forward the development of the Enigma system.
Dream spokesperson Alpaslan Karasu: "Enigma is the core of our software development.
With its Enigma Open Source project, Dream has succeeded like no other company in fully exploiting the capabilities
of Linux in a digital home entertainment environment.
The fact that other competitors are now also using the benefits of this Open Source project is seen as an appreciation of our work."
